“Never judge others. You both know good
and well how unexpected events can change who a person is. Always keep that in
mind. You never know what someone else is experiencing within their own life.” (Julia Cohen, Slammed)

Honestly, I did not think of anything when
I decided to purchase this book. I only wanted a novel for my assignment. I did
not expect anything since I got this book from a recommendation. I also needed
to wait more than two weeks so I could get this book in my hand. Yet it left me
speechless.
This novel brings you to the world where
Layken lives. Because of the death of her father, she has to take care of her
mother and younger brother. They decided to move out of town, to her mother’s
hometown. She does not like the moving, yet her new neighbor changes it. Will
Cooper, her new neighbor who lives with her brother, leaves her speechless. She
finds her new hope since she meets him. As the day goes by, they have become
close. But it also changes because of the revelation of a shocking truth. A usual
interaction only hurts them more and more as they try to find the answer.
I can’t say anything anymore for this
book. Laugh? Absolutely. Cry? Don’t mention it. I did it a couple of times. Touched?
Of course. She brings me to Will and Layken’s world where only poem and The
Avett Brothers are all they need. A world where they left nothing but a
responsible they must take. Usually I do not need a long time to finish a book.
But because of some personal reasons (mostly because of my college), I finally
finish it this morning.
Colleen Hoover may be a new author, but
she has left me speechless. Her story, her poems, all of it. And her poem? It’s
amazing. My favorite character of course, Julia Cohen. She is so strong, trying
to raise her two children by herself after her husband’s death. Moreover, she’s
got a cancer that might take her life. I think all of mothers are just like
her, try to do everything for her children.
